  • CHARITY COOKBOOK

bigpicThanks to members contributions the Bury St Edmunds Charity Golf Cook Book has now been launched and selling well - only £7.50 a copy.

    Dear Members,

Bury St Edmunds Golf Club’s very own cookbook! What can I say … Firstly, what an incredible start to our launch, on the first weekend we managed to sell nearly all the first batch of 70 copies ordered which was just amazing. Margaret was swiftly on the phone to our supplier with a plea for more copies as soon as possible and these arrived within the week. Since then we have taken every opportunity to be around and sell our books. Apart from the opportunities that arise in our Golf Club we have been invited to attend the following occasions in Bury St Edmunds.

The Healthy Heart Day which is being organised by the WSH ‘My Wish’ campaign is taking place in the Ark on Friday 29th September. We have also been invited to raise the profile of our Golf Club on that day and to encourage people to take part in our healthy sport. Do come along and support, you never know what games Matt and Simon might be thinking up to demonstrate the fun/health aspect of golf.
On Saturday 30th September we have been offered a table in the Apex on their Charity Stall Day – another day to note in your diaries and come along and support.
On Sunday 19th November we have been invited to be a part of the Christmas Fayre Weekend and will have a table at the Craft Fair in the Athenaeum.

As for the origin of this dream! Well……….. a few of us ladies started sharing supper together taking turns in preparing main courses and desserts, we had to put a stop to starters and cheese boards and we just couldn’t eat it all! One night we were chatting about the super meals that we were sharing and someone suggested that we could perhaps put some of our recipes together in a booklet and raise money for the Captains Charity this year. It almost seemed like an impossible dream at that time but the idea just kept gathering momentum. It then occurred to us that there were probably lots of people at the Golf Club, men and ladies alike, that thoroughly enjoyed cooking and probably had some favourite recipes of their own. Because of your amazing willingness to support and your generosity in sharing your family favourites, the rest is history, and thanks to the tenacity of our members we now have books for sale in the Bury Free Press Reception area in Kings Road, The Macmillan Unit at the West Suffolk Hospital, in the Professional’s Shop, behind the bar in our Club and anywhere else we can think of.

I know there’s still a lot of work to do to make this the success that these amazing ladies are hoping it will be but right now I would just like to say a huge thank you to these incredible friends for all the work they have already done and all the work they are still planning to do.

Now all we need to do is keep selling, and buying – what a good idea for Christmas presents………………..

    Warmest wishes
    Joan Warnett, Lady Captain
